Archbishop of York's Marriage Bonds and Allegations- Index by Newsome. JOHN T 21 of Littleborough, Lancs and Hannah Hollas 21 of Halifax. Halifax Parish Church. |
Notes |
- JOHN and Hannah were married in the Parish Church of St John the Baptist, Halifax (West Yorks D53/47). JOHN T. was a bachelor and a waterman of Littleborough, in the parish of Rochdale. Hannah Hollas (sic) was a spinster of Warley of the parish of Halifax. They were married by Licence and both made their mark. Witnesses Luke Hoyle and George Teawarth. Ages not stated.
Hannah's surname was very clearly Hollas on the marriage register which was very neatly written. However, her third child was called ELLIS as was a grandson and other descendents. This raises the question as to whether her surname was in fact ELLIS, mis-heard and mis-written as Hollas on the marriage register. No other written record of her name has been found. (This possibility could be further researched by studying baptisms in Halifax Parish Church.)
